Our Stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach
We spent fall break at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. We booked our stay through the Chase travel portal as an Edit hotel, and here is what was included.

Our stay
Our family of four spent fall break in Huntington Beach at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. This resort is very family friendly with daily activities, and a welcome scavenger hunt for the kids to get to know the resort better, with prizes upon finishing. The staff was friendly and very responsive. They continued to go above and beyond to accommodate us.

We booked this hotel through the Chase travel portal, which gave us special perks since this hotel is an "Edit" hotel.
What The Edit is

The Edit are collection of hotels available through the Chase travel portal. If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, Chase gives you 2x $250 (soon to be 4 x $250 starting in 2027 for the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business only) credits to these hotels when you book TWO nights.
Our Edit perks

Here is what was included. First, daily complimentary breakfast for two at their onsite restaurant, the Watertable. Even though it states breakfast for two, as long as your bill stays at or under the price of their priciest meal offering times two, then we could feed our whole family. This is easy to do because the priciest item is $42 and the most common price for an entree is around $25 and there are also kids meals at $11. We never reached $84 to feed our family. Taxes and tips are also covered as long as the tip is “normal”(the front desk person was unsure of the amount of tip, she thought maybe it was 10-15% tip covered, but we tipped 18-20% and it was still covered).

Here is what else was included in each booking:
- A $100 hotel credit
- A free room upgrade when available
- A $30 welcome amenity to their on-site grocer, Surf City Grocers
- Early check-in
- Late check-out (if available)
How I booked it
1. I booked two separate, back-to-back stays.
Each booking was for 2 nights. By splitting the 4-night stay into two separate bookings, I was able to get the $250 credit on each booking instead of having one $250 credit spread across all 4 nights.
2. I paid for each booking with points + $250 cash using my Chase Sapphire Reserve.
So each reservation had its own $250 cash portion.
3. Chase reimbursed me $250 for each booking.
That means the $250 cash portion of each booking was credited back to me through my Reserve benefit.
4. When I arrived, I asked the hotel if they could keep me in the same room for both bookings.
This is where you want to be careful. Combining the reservations can cause you to lose some of the benefits attached to the second booking.
For example, this hotel offered a $100 hotel credit per booking, plus an additional $30 credit to the on-site grocery store. If the hotel combines your two reservations into one, they may only give you those credits once instead of once per reservation.
You can absolutely ask if they can combine the bookings while still honoring all of the credits for both reservations. However, the hotel may tell you that combining them means you only receive the credits once (this was the case for me when I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach).
5. If they can't combine the bookings while keeping all the credits, you can simply check out and back in.
If the resort/hotel is able to keep you in the same room, then at the end of your first 2-night booking, go to the front desk, check out of the first reservation, and check in to your second reservation. If they cant keep you in the same room, you can ask them to explore other room options to stay in the same room. If both bookings have the same room type booked, I imagine there would be a good chance you can stay in the same room, but there is always a small chance if the hotel is very booked out that it wouldn't work out. Just keep that in mind if you want to use this strategy.
